The 10/40 Window is a rectangular geographic area stretching from North Africa through the Middle East to Asia, covering 68 countries. Its name comes from its position between 10 and 40 degrees north latitude.
While the 10/40 Window constitutes only one-third of earth's total land area, nearly two-thirds of the world's people reside there. Of those two-thirds, it is estimated that over 3 billion individuals do not have access to the Gospel, meaning, people who have a minimal knowledge of the gospel, but have no valid opportunity to respond to it.
The 10/40 Window is home to the majority of the world’s poor. Of the poorest of the poor, more than eight out of ten live in this window.
Many countries located in the 10/40 Window are closed countries where it is against the law to evangelize the Christian faith. In some countries, if you are caught or suspected of trying to proselytize, you will be deported or imprisoned. In other countries, however, proselytizing or even merely being a Christian can get you tortured and killed.
