You may have noticed that our logo includes a willow tree.  It has a special significance as part of The Ruby Thorp Foundation, and in fact, represents some of the qualities of Ruby herself.

Grandad and Grandma Thorp owned a home that had a majestic willow in the front yard.  Grandma Ruby also lined the boundaries of the home with countless flowers, the rose being one of her favorites.  As kids, me, my brother, along with our cousins, would utilize every aspect of the willow tree during our times when we stayed overnight at our grandparents home.  We would climb as far as we dared, chase each other around tree playing tag and other games, swing and hang on it's branches, and hide under its shade during the hot summer days.  Memories of laughter and fun have remained with me my whole life.

The Willow tree is something special.   It can even be found in the Bible.  Ezekiel 17:5 says, "The prophet plants a seed and “sets it like a willow tree." This makes reference to the willow tree’s long-held symbolism of rebirth and vitality.

The Meaning of Our Logo - The Willow

A symbol of quiet strength, rooted with endurance, and boldness; encompassed by the long branches and leaves, it is a sign of protection, security, and grace;  weeping in prayer for those who are spiritually lost and in need; a symbol of love, character, and wisdom."
